Protecting Children Training

Dealing with child abuse and neglect can be a very difficult subject to come to terms with, especially if you are involved with looking after and caring for children on a weekly or daily basis. Being a child minder, within a nursery or school you are at to forefront of the care of children and you sometimes may see things that may constitute abuse or neglect.

The childcare act 2006 and the early years foundation stage safeguarding and welfare requirements 2012 require all group care providers to have in place a safeguarding children policy and procedure, which reflects the Local Safeguarding Children Board guidance and procedures.

While it is not mandatory for childminders to have written copies of safeguarding policies and procedures, childminders are expected to ensure that any staff members and assistants they employ, either on a voluntary or paid basis are aware of all safeguarding children policies and procedures and that they are clearly able to define them for parents.
